eBay Invests in Mobile Shopping

The way we shop—and the way we pay—is evolving thanks to innovations in mobile-commerce solutions. At Mobile World Congress, eBay, www.ebayinc.com, made several announcements that will further the company’s reach into the mobile-commerce space.

eBay partnered with Three.co.uk, www.three.co.uk, the carrier whose network covers more than 97% of the U.K. population, to deliver Android smartphones that come preloaded with eBay mobile apps. The companies say the alliance will help bring the mobile shopping experience directly to consumers.

PayPal, www.paypal.com, which is an eBay company, also launched its Carrier Payment Network from Mobile World Congress. PayPal says it will work with its 250+ carriers and 1,500+ digital-goods merchants to make mobile-carrier payments more viable for a broader range of online merchants.

This is in addition to a couple of “strategic integration” announcements from PayPal, including merchants such as Entradas.com, www.entradas.com, and Yotel, www.yotel.com, which will allow consumers to buy tickets and book hotel rooms via PayPal on their mobile phones.
